TIL men are immune to STDs and have no choice who they have sex with.
I am absolutely pro choice.. making this a men v women thing makes me less supportive though.
If you pigeon hole me I will play the part

I love when women say this shit and completely sidestep that having sex is the choice.

I get the point, but men risk half of those and they don’t get a choice in the matter ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

Well, actually men do face the sudden lifelong (financial) responsibility for another human being every time they have sex, and they have no choice in it.

She’s right though, no one should have their life ruined by an unwanted child. If your life can be negatively impacted by a pregnancy you should be able to have it aborted.

Pretty sure women have a choice in whether they have sex or not…. I get that this is obviously about abortion but it’s a very stupid way of saying it.
Alternative-Bee-8981 on
She’s right. If men could get pregnant, there would be abortions at birth if needed and you could get pills out of a vending machine.

But … they do.
Statistically being a father is in not necessarily less detrimental to your health, than being a mother and going through pregnancy.
In fact, fathers have *shorter* life expectancy.
There’s a conversation to be had about the immediate detriments of pregnancy, but the vast majority of man put their health at risk when having unprotected sex.
All parents get the minuscule boom of incrementally more longevity, specifically fathers for every daughter born, and parents who have children late in life.
But there is a relative difference in the health deficits that come along with, supposedly, the stress from being a parent.
And it disproportionally affects men, or at least it used to, for certain generations.
As an argument it’s arbitrary to draw the line from conception to birth, and you would need to good, reasonable substantiation why that particular time frame was more relevant, than life overall.
Or even just life until retirement.
A lot of sexism, particularly some ideological forms of feminism, struggles with picking *fair* data sets.
The “wage gap” is perhaps the best example to illustrate how reasonable margins affect the outcome of the “observed” inequality.
It’s not whataboutism, in the Western World it’s actually fairly hard to determine wether being a mother is less unhealthy than being a father.
Lots of conflicting studies, lots of different view points.
On the bright side, it’s nice to see the genders are somewhat equal in health related to children.
I wouldn’t advocate for a purely science-based society, and it’s hard to empirically discover the “truth” anyhow, but I wish for themes that address the grand narrative of justice and equality, the discussions would be a little more fact based.
Which includes discussing the limitations of a study, instead of taking its findings as granted for an objective “truth”.
TL;DR: if individual and across gender affection was the criterion for wanting a choice, men are already affected. And not necessarily “less” than women. It’s highly dependent on scope, and what characteristics of life is scrutinized.

Well, yes, totally so. But also, you see, I know many men who would like to have a say in whether an unplanned pregnancy is brought to term or not, and they generally have no say in it.
In fact, even NOT wanting the baby, they are still held accountable for that baby.
My friend did voice his opinion, preferring a curettage, but the girl refused. So no he is hooked.
(in his case , it turned out well: he loves his daughter endlessly).
I know, it is besides the very valid point Cher is making, but still.

Men are financially responsible for any child that’s born. I support abortion rights, but even without that women can give the baby up for adoption if the father is out of the picture so they aren’t forced to raise a child.

To be fair if every time men had sex they also had the option of popping a once a day pill to prevent all of those consequences there’d probably be a lot less drama.
