It’s kinda ironic, that the person, who is most associated with French defeat in WW2, is actually one of the most important reasons of French victory at WW1

Napoleon 3 and the French commune one don’t really seem to fit in perfectly
Especially since Napoleon 3 is the OG “Germans are too strong I surrender”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, its exactly BECAUSE of all those amazing achievements France has accomplished over the centuries that getting your capital taken in a month from an attack you knew was coming from a country that was in abject poverty 15 years prior makes it such an embarrassing shining highlight in French history.

As a French, I hate this meme, since it’s quite clear that the “French surrender meme” is quite dead nowadays; there no need to force into people’s throats about how “great our millitary past” was.
Yes, we had victories, yes, we are not cowards even in World War 2. We defended the BEF at Dunkirk, we had the free French, we took part in the liberation of Europe on all fronts/theaters, and we had the resistance etc;.etc..
But come on, we can get mocked; it wasn’t like we suffered other defeats like every other country.

The last three aren’t actual achievements by most metrics. WW2 france was not considered to have an effective resistance during the actual war, the yellow jackets hardly accomplished anything of value, and there’s plenty of NATO members that did not go to Iraq (like Canada and Germany).
Also the first 2 were achievements of the FRANKS which spoke a Germanic language and were originally from the German side of the Rhine.
If squatting over French soil is sufficient for getting a buff doge, then you should include the “French” victory at Alesia, the “French” victories at Crecy, and of course who can forget the French capture of Paris in 5 months in WW2 (yes I’m counting Alsace Lorraine as french so this joke can land)

All men should be free but not the slaves in Haiti. They should stay slaves.
Germany oppressed us. It’s a grave crime to oppress a population. Oh poor us. We just got our freedom back. No time to rest. Let’s go oppress and indiscriminately kill Algerians and Vietnamese.

I feel like Napoleon III. is missing an important bit.
You know the whole “I started a war to annex parts of my neighbor to distract from my disastrous foreign-policy adventures and promptly got my teeth kicked in”-part.
