      Nintendo: “Don’t emulate our games.”

Me: “Okay, then provide us a means to play your old games on modern hardware for a reasonable price

      Nintendo: “No.”

    2. I do find it funny that people think they have some inherent right to have old Nintendo games readily available on modern platforms.

    3. Nintendo should just make a service like Steam where people can purchase their entire catalogue of games from the past till the present and play on their own devices.

I think this is a great idea. And the easy access will actually make people leave emulation or piracy and just go for their official service.

But, of course, Nintendo won’t do this…. Because they want to make sure you buy their consoles and handhelds every generation.

Nintendo when people emulate games that they don’t even sell anymore. Seriously, people are doing their own work for them to preserves those games because right now emulation is the only reliable way.

    5. They don’t care if you use an emulator to play the games. What they really, actually, care about is that you’re not paying Nintendo money for the games or the “console”.

They can do whatever the hell they want with their own property.

Not that I think Nintendo is in the right, but like, it’s not the method that they have a problem with, it’s piracy. You can use flash carts or other methods of playing the roms on the console and that doesn’t change anything.

Nintendo emulate their own games literally all the time, you get access to a whole bunch of emulated games when you pay for their online, i don’t get why people are making such a big deal over this lol. Nindendo don’t have a problem with emulation, they have a problem with their games being illegally emulated by third parties.

    8. Except for the thing that most emulator programs have stayed up over the years untouched, it’s only recently that people have thrown a fit because of the take down of yuzu and ryujinx.

But those were committing the emulator cardinal sin of emulating a currently on the market console. Emulating switch games and making money off them is a wild thing to try to do and is basically corporate suicide. Then even wilder for people to get up in arms about it like they weren’t selling their own copies of in production games.

You can still go play your favorite ds and gameboy or gamecube emulators.

    9. Or

Nintendo when they sell roms of their games they downloaded from the internet.

      or even better

Sony when they sell their games on someone elses emulator.

I disagree with their business practices but it is their product. The issue they have is people using their products illegally not emulation itself. I guess I thought that was obvious.

    11. It’s not like I’m against nintendo games, I emulate them, but this is like saying “you take your car for a drive whenever you want but when I take your car for a drive whenever I want you suddenly get mad?!”

    12. The problem is the copyright. They are the owners of the copyright so they can do whatever they want to

I’m going to upvote this because it makes me giggle, but you do know that emulation is not illegal right? it’s the methods that people use to acquire the games that is illegal and because the games are their own property they can subject anyone to any policy they implemented, that includes shutting down emulators if they so choose

    14. 1 – It’s their games, their right.

2 – The emulators are probably PC ports for their in-house emus that we see on Switch.
