I can’t think of any J. Cole song or stated political position that is as deep or nuanced as his fans purport him to be. He’s half a standard deviation more deep than your average rapper (if that), and folks were so starved for something more involved that they got duped.

Niggas just make to many excuses for Cole since this beef thing started, Cole and his missteps haven’t been that bad on their own but the constant damage control from his fanbase make it worse. One minute their championing his diss track and calling To Pimp a Butterfly trash, next minute they’ve taken the moral high-ground and Cole is too mature for rap battles.
