Eh, both sides can be really stupid depending on situations. Obviously you need to keep some of the generals to rebuild the military from a disaster, but there’s some generals are so incompetent that it’s just better off to kill them to show that generals are held responsible for bad performances.
I mean, there’s a fellow called Li Jinglong, who managed to lose about 200k imperial troops in several decisive battles in the Jingnan campaign, and later surrendered to Yongle emperor (who was seizing the throne) by opening the capital gates. His military records were so bad that some people even think he’s a mole all along. That’s when you should kill your generals.
