Not to defend Trump, but no, wanting to ban violent video games would not be “woke”, as far as the modern definition is concerned.
In the wake of the Columbine shootings, it was Christian conservatives who were going after Marylin Manson, violent video games and other media they blamed for the shootings.
This sort of thing has traditionally come from the right. They patented “cancel culture”. It’s important to understand the nuances of cancel culture and which side of the coin it’s on.
If the “canceling” is about control, it’s the right wing type. For example, “we want to control the types of music and video games that you’re buying. We deem what is appropriate and what is not.”
If the canceling is socially-concerned, it’s the left wing type. For example, “the image on the Aunt Jemima syrup bottles are based on racial stereotypes from the Jim Crow era, so we’re removing them”.
I’m not arguing either side here, simply pointing out the difference.
