Why is vanilla considered “plain”? Vanilla is a flavoring. Plain ice cream is ice cream without vanilla or any other flavorings in it.

Maybe don’t include fascist empires in your ice cream metaphor, but if you do don’t make them delicious flavors.

    3. a region with such a long history of different and interesting polities and you went with pahlavi iran?

      This is spot on

I usually go for Chocolate, Lemon Sorbet and a biscuity flavour with bits and if there isn’t any then vanilla.

Coincidentally the Roman, German and British empires are the ones I most like reading about.

Which empire would be biscuit/cookies and cream?
