This makes me wonder if it’s possible to pre-tension a potentially problematic tree with a ratchet strap and anchor so that if the ground does get soggy enough for it to be blown over, it preferentially falls in a specific direction…

It doesn’t look like the storm caused much damage to the actual homes. Both homeowners are extremely lucky that tree didn’t crash on to them.
