Not an entirely good thing, and I’m saying this as a Polish person.
In the west, the plague effectively brought an end to the old school feudalism, since after that, the peasants actually had bargaining power and their comfort of living increased considerably. Meanwhile, we’ve kept serfdom until our bitter end when we got carved up by the three powers.
