    1. For all wondering about the context of this ad, China had only months earlier entered the conflict on North Korea’s side (against the US-led UN coalition for South Korea). The public was increasingly terrified that the Communists were going to start World War III, so this ad was likely meant to reassure folks that the railroad and countless others were ready for the situation and all out war effort, if that dreaded day came (thankfully it didn’t). Basically the Pennsylvania Railroad was proclaiming “We did it before, we can do it again”.
