Huh… it’s a Critical Duty or Critical Defense bullet. You can tell from the red polymer tip in the center. It failed to expand.
Glad nobody was hurt!

you are responsible for every round until it stops moving!

Firing upwards in celebration or at the storm feels productive at the source but can be very destructive at the destination.

If that hole went all the way through the shingle you want to fill it will something that won’t just wash away so you don’t get water under the shingles, nor a bigger hole that eventually becomes a leak.

Judging by the lack of penetration and expansion, I’m going to guess it was shot nearly straight up in the air and fell back down at roughly terminal velocity.

Hornaday Critical Defense. Might be a .40.

Insert my obligatory pissed contradiction to the Mythbusters episode where they proved a bullet fired directly straight up into the air could not kill someone. I disagree wholeheartedly. In addition to the fact that the blunt force trauma could do it from a non penetrating strike to a cranium at just the right angle- it could hit someone looking up, and do odd damage that way, leading to freakish mortality.

They do have to end up somewhere. It’s no so apparent to some of the slower folks.

Back when I lived in an old ford E350 in southern illinois, I would frequently find bullets rolling around on the roof after being parked for a while. People would fire them in the air to scare off birds. People are stupid.

Hornady Critical Duty. Someone wasted really expensive ammo on the air.

Hornady Critical defense hollow point at first glance. That was someone’s carry ammo.
