Found an animation showing a “Convex Hull” of an object. But with no other context, your brain is able to determine and figure out what that object is.

Well, obviously. Everyone recognizes a hobo trying to escape the popo. It’s universal.

Seriously though, I would like to see this with something other than “dancer.” It would be neat to see where the limit is.

Super interesting.  I would love to know what features are determinative here.  That is to say, how much can the original figure be obscured in ambiguity while still maintaining the ability to identify it?

As far as i’m aware, (i remember reading this in some publication) the brain recognizes things that it already knows by their outline. That’s why small kids read letter by letter slowly, and adults read fast, but can skip words or even mis read words. Because the words in the adult brain are stored as boxy shapes with peaks and lows, as if each letter is in a box and that box is tight fitting. Perhaps its the same mechanism for quick recognition.

It’s just ballet with a sheet wrapped around the person , I don’t really see why this is so interesting

So we look at a video of a shape and our brain is able to tell what that shape is, oh look a circle

    9. That is because the movement performed is specific enought to fill the gaps. Now try the same with something more niche and lets see how it goes

    10. This is some first year psych major BS. I like how it’s always “with no context” and completely ignores the idea the every experience we have in life adds pre-existing context and biases to our own prospectives. Good luck in school OP.
