also, the end is loose to push or pull, depending how you measure.

Yeah, that makes inside measurements easier. Instead of bending the tape and hoping you’re on, you just but the end of the measure to the other side. Then add the width to the read.

Why not put both numbers on the tape then?

It’s easier to just bend it and read the angle

I think the vast majority of tools have uses and aspects the vast majority have no idea about.
There is almost always a reason for absolutely everything when it comes to modern designs of ancient things, so when someone picks up a tool, and just assumes it has a notch in it, or a random mark on it, or a certain angle etc it is not just for the look, it has a function you do not understand and only when that use is explained to you do you suddenly realize ‘of course it is’ but until then, it is just random bullshit ‘no one knows why’

Son of a bitch!
I’m not sure what he’s trying to say
So I’m actually 11 inches according to this…I thought something was off
I’m a carpenter here and I’ve known this for many years now I’m just too stupid to add all the little 1/8 and 1/16 and .5 and all that BS together 😂
How to dad, more like how to measure. 📏

I knew this. I only by tapes that are nice easy numbers like 3in maybe, and I mean maybe 2.5in
thank you later for something I learned in junior high school?
My dad taught me this 40 years ago when I was 6.
Thank you
There is also this type, which includes a separate scale on the band, that tells the measurement if you pull out the back part: https://www.hultafors.com/products/talmeter/H0051-marking-measure-talmeter-2m-3m/79369
Why am I subtitled?! I’m speaking English!
