Diplomacy is where official spokes persons for countries talk to each other. What Trump is doing when talking to officials for other countries is NOT diplomacy. Not even if he has any intent beyond self serving ones.

Key phrase “SINCE HE LEFT OFFICE” and engaging in “diplomacy” as a private citizen without informing the state dept. is extremely shady

      [Literally a felony](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan_Act).

      > Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Not that anyone has ever been convicted of it though.

    4. The lesson of history is that no one ever learns from history.

Nixon was allowed to get away with this as well.

    5. When there is well documented history of the Russian state helping that private citizen get to office, then yes there is a problem with that “diplomacy”. International diplomacy is the quid pro quo between states, “we both agree to reduce trade tariffs”, not “We’ll get you elected and you turn a blind eye to whatever we do.”

Cause he’s Putin’s bitch. Here’s the thing even if DT isn’t an outright agent of Russia, he’s without a doubt simped (visibly so) for Putin and other authoritarian strongmen. It’d be better if he was an outright agent because if he’s not at least getting paid by Putin he’s just his bitch.

This people are so deceitful, most of this people have college degrees, they know how to make research, it really easy to find out that private citizens can’t engage with foreign governments in diplomatic talks on behalf of their nation, only government officials or specially designated envoys can do that, if you aren’t part of the diplomatic corps, or weren’t tap by the President, you don’t have any power to negotiate on behalf of the government.

When Obama met Putin face to face he wouldn’t shake his hand. That’s the correct reaction.

    9. JD Vance, doing his best to cock everything up and have trump end in jail. Surely he can’t be stupid enough to say this shit out loud?

What’s the point of the Logan Act or any act for that matter, if not enforced??

    11. It is literally illegal for a private citizen to engage in national diplomacy. If he gets autorisation he is no longer a private citizen.

I am not sure if it is in the constitution but I know it is illegal.

Not to mention it is a felony for a private citizen to participate in any form of diplomacy without authorization from the state department. We have laws against this

Vance, there is absolutely something wrong working diplomacy when you are not a current leader or representative of the country. It is called the Logan Act.

I mean, Trump is a private citizen, so he probably shouldn’t be “engaging in diplomacy”, and the fact that the candidate for VP needs that explained to him is disturbing.

    15. As just a random dude, if I had a call with Putin I’m pretty sure there would be a cop at my door within the hour.
