I see the problem. You”re thinking that this means “credit” as in returning items and getting store credit.Â
Instead, by “credit”, here they mean buying something “on credit” because you don’t have any money. Many businesses, especially in small towns, used to do this for regular customers who would periodically pay their tab off.Â
The joke here is that they still technically do this… it’s just unlikely that anyone qualifies.
