There are building codes for that shit. Also you can make it so your windows don’t break. Of course there is a limit to anything, but cat 1 and 2 should not damage a building built to the appropriate code.

The maximum the scale goes is CAT 5 but if the scale were to be extended Milton would be classed as a CAT 7. It’s currently the 5th strongest hurricane on record.

The main reason you board up your windows is not only to protect the windows from getting shattered, but to prevent wind from entering an opening and essentially lifting the roof off of the house.
Houses in hurricane areas are required to be overbuilt to withstand most hurricanes. Even down to the shingles on the roof which requires 6 nails per shingle instead of the standard 4 nails.
