My local grocery store has an ice cream brand that has 6 different types of vanilla.

    1. They are vanilla, double vanilla, French vanilla, New York vanilla, vanilla bean and home style vanilla.

I find it ironic vanilla is a synonym for plain, boring or simple yet trying to pick which one to buy is anything but simple without knowing the difference (which I still don’t).

oh yea this is more common than you think and there is a difference between them all as well. i haven’t seen double vanilla but have seen the others. my personal favorite is the vanilla bean. especially paired with some fruit. super delicious

    3. Can someone please explain the difference? I often see brands with 2 or even 3 flavors and never know which one to get,

#Not all vanilla’s are created equal!

It’s interesting though. Vanilla being relegated as a simple or boring choice, is the most versatile and varied. Real vanilla fans know the difference.

Huh I checked the HEB near me online and they also have 7 store brand vanillas. 1905, homemade, vanilla bean, light (1/2 fat), no sugar added, lactose free, and Country Fare (their discount line). Also a vanilla frozen yogurt.

at my aldi the generic name is sundae shoppe, but its the exact same thing. they are phasing out the “stoneridge” name except in certain places.

    7. Hats off to whoever gave the green light to this. Everyone’s gotta have their niche. 😂

I wonder if they save cost by just altering their vanilla instead of spending more on other flavorings like chocolate, fruit, etc.

    8. The plain vanilla flavor also has a slow-churned (blue packaging) variant, so doesn’t that actually make it 7 types?

That’s actually a private label brand, they have regional flavors available for retailers to pick and choose based off their customer preferences, but this store said fuck it and ordered all of them.

I’ve tried the French vanilla of this brand and it’s p good! I have the double vanilla in the freezer and I’m curious about the taste difference if there is any

    11. All right I get the difference between vanilla and slow turned vanilla (red and blue topped). So is vanilla bean actually using real vanilla beans?

    12. I think Kroger has the same or similar. Their “Very Vividly Vanilla” is the closest I’ve ever had to hard scoop that tastes like soft-serve. Perfect for root beer floats.
