In Idaho I can walk into a gun store without showing ID. I can even go to the store and buy a machete without any ID at all.

A gun in the hands of a well trained patriot is less dangerous than an uncensored book with the word “nipple” in the hands of a deranged 12 year old.

Fewer and fewer places where young people can even *exist* without constant interference.

    3. I am guessing parents were dumping off their kids at the library expecting free baby sitters?

    4. That’s the library requiring ID in response to the law, not the state requiring ID.

Thoughts, ideas, and information can be much more dangerous than a gun. They need to make sure that you’re not on some list of mentally unstable people, or too impressionable, to learn any new ideas.

      Or something.

    6. So, you have to be over 18 but only have to prove it if you’re not over 30? How do you prove you’re over 30?

    7. I will never understand how so many people fail to comprehend that a leader who wants to restrict education is almost certainly up to no good.

I can do that in Ohio. Only place I need an id to enter is a dispensary. Or a bar checking everyone at the door.

    9. I’m in my 30s and I have to show ID every time I buy spray paint. And to be fair, you can’t walk out of a gun store with a gun without a background check. Frankly, all these things are equally ridiculous…Guns, paint, and books.

I heard it on a podcast just today. This is really happening (in several states iirc): restricted library cards, permission slips for certain books, age checks in certain sections… this is the Brave New World MAGA claims libs want.

Some small libraries even had to forbid access to under 18s completely because they had no way to physically separate sections under new regulations.

That isn’t very “first amendment freedom of speech” of the hypocritical fuckwits, now is it?

    12. Really OP? Are you exempt from Federal form 4473 which includes a background check?

How is that remotely possible while remaining legal?

      (The library thing is awful.)

For those clueless like myself as OP sadly is acting like we all know about Idaho affairs 🙁

Gist: “Parents” now have a lot of control over books in Idaho and libraries can easily be fined for *adult* books….so it looks like to combat such dumb fines they’ve sectioned off the books (as the law suggests) and are now making it awfully hard to let such people near it (as the law requests). This is what that looks like if you maliciously are acting compliant. You get….a smart library all but demanding that you step through all the red tape possible just to read a Margaret Blume book or whatever.

NOW, there will be parents who likely will scream for Idaho’s mountaintops that this was a victory (Gov. is quoted as hating it but seemingly did one of those “party line” signatures). There will also be many parents who just realized that somehow, someway, they are no longer able to easily parent their own damn children as someone who may be childless just told the public what someone should or should not read.

      Laughable.

It is absolutely absurd to age gate libraries, and the folk that think it’s a great idea should be ashamed

    15. Imagine being 29 and walking in with a 5, 3, and 1 year old and having to check in at the front 💀 😂

Because kids with devices in their pockets that can easily access the most profane filth you can possibly imagine are really in danger from reading the word “vagina” or something. /s
