Theres a tousand fun anecdotes about Desiree, her inviting small children into the royal palace by in broken Swedish yelling “Kom kom!” (come come) to give them sweets or her in her carriage doing laps around the courtyard yelling “Kring kring” (around around) those two words were about the extension of her Swedish. But my favourite is a quote from a French diplomat from the year her husband Karl XIV Johan or perhaps more known as Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte died in 1844.

“Royalty has not altered her — unfortunately, for the reputation of the Crown. She has always been and will always remain an ordinary merchant woman, surprised over her position, and surprising to find upon a throne.”

    2. Modern flats look so clunky and inelegant compared to the ones they wore in the Romantic era, I want to see this shape brought back
