Terrible president, great human being

    1. Good president, crippled by inheriting the Nixon/Ford rot and by literal Treason from the Reagan campaign.

Edit: This is apparently wrong, see below. Reagan didn’t commmit treason with Iran until Iran-Contra started

    2. He wasn’t a bad president, nor do I like this “all presidents bad” talk you Americans always seem to have.

The quality of the presidency is determined by the quality of the electorate and the quality of the governance system in place. In the US, blocking legislation is rewarded more than cooperating with the other side, this is why no president in modern times has been able to do pretty much anything bipartisan.

Except for president Biden who has done that with all of his major legislations.

The one thing I don’t like about him is that he did one of the worst pardons. In 1981 Carter pardoned Peter Yarrow who was convicted in 1970 for molesting a 14-year-old girl.

There’s a crêpe place where I live that makes a flavour called Jimmy Carter: he’s a pretty good crêpe flavour as well

not even terrible. He was in extenuating situations and he did the best he could have in my opinion. I don’t strongly disagree with any of his policies.

    7. People who say Carter was a “terrible president, great human being” couldn’t name one thing his administration did, good or bad. This is just something people parrot because it sounds good. If you ask 100 redditors, what number of them are going to be able to give a coherent description of the hostage crisis?
