If federal employees would have been working overtime to prepare for this hurricane under Trump, it’s because they are faithful public servants who know how to do their jobs. And they would do so under any president, as I’m sure they did so this time too under Biden.
These are the people Trump wants to replace with his loyalists. Oh, and he just publicly stated that he doesn’t like to pay overtime, making it even less likely that the lackeys he installs will be working nights and weekends to prepare for the next climate-change-fueled hurricane.

So just for some historical context of why the republican party is pushing so hard on hurricanes right now. We need to go to the long long time ago of 2012.
Much like now Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast leaving a trail of destruction from Florida all the way up to Jersey and NYC. The race between President Obama and Romney was close with Republicans thinking they maybe had a bit of an edge. But in the aftermath of the hurricane Obama got FEMA and other federal agencies to deliver quick and efficient aid. He was photographed with these governors walking the damage and had tons of reporting of him doing a good job.
The optics of him doing that is what a number of Republicans think shifted things and prevented president mittens. Like people forget how certain they were they were going to win in a squeaker. Imagine mitt Romney in full on Scooby Doo voice going “If it wasnt for you meddling hurricanes.”
So the republican media machine is trying to craft the narrative that Biden and by extension Harris screwed this up, because if they do a good job. If the media reminds citizens of NC that Trump left them hanging too much, that could push the state just a little bit more towards tipping to Harris. And if Trump loses NC he’s done.
