Back when was first eligible gambling and sports was strictly something for the underworld and mob. It doesn’t seem as terrible today but he had committed a severe sin in that time.
On a side note I met him in Las Vegas in 2010. I tried to thank him for what he had done for the Phillies but he ignored me. Apparently he expected to be paid if you wanted to talk with him.
