    1. I had a MacBook charger cable get very discolored and warped from heat.  Changed it out for a new cable and it was fine

    2. I had a powerbook g4 back in the day that was well out of warranty when the charger caught on fire at the connector. I called Apple to tell them it happened, and they sent me a free replacement. I have doubts they would do that nowadays.

    3. This can happen when too much current flows through the cable. This usually happens from a loose connection, or something happened with Mac at the component level that’s no longer properly limiting the current draw.

    4. I have a friend who just had a very devastating house fire because of a faulty cord, much like this. Throw that thing away and get a new one!

Also, side note, make sure you have arc fault breakers in your house.

    5. Aftermarket? If so ping Apple and flag as a safety concern. Obviously stop usage and get a new cable/brick.

    6. To give a little bit of backstory: the cable and brick are both OEM from Apple. The charger has been doing this weird thing for a couple of months where it’s connected to my MacBook and it shows the lightning bolt icon, but tells me the battery isn’t charging. After a few minutes it would usually go away and charge anyways, but rather slowly if I say so myself. The brick/cable weren’t particularly hot most of the time, just a normal amount of warmth coming from the brick.

I swapped out the cable for a different one when I noticed it was deformed and it now works fine without any “Battery isn’t charging” errors. I think the molten cable might have had a break in it possibly shorting it out. Might go to Apple for a new cable but I’m not sure they will give me one as my laptop is way out of warranty (it’s from 2018).
