An archaeologist holds a plaster cast of a child’s body that died as a result of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE in Pompeii. The child was sitting on his mother’s lap when tragedy struck.

We saw this exhibit with the plaster casts. It was chilling. Parents with hands up shielding their children, people face down turning away from the ash. I will never forget it.

Sad , I have heard that the ashes were really high temperature and people may have died instantly. Very tragic , I always thought they had basements , apparently not.
