The Bishop’s Throne in Exeter Cathedral is the greatest surviving medieval episcopal throne in Europe. Begun in 1313, it was designed by the mason-carpenter Thomas of Witney and carved by Robert Galmeton who was paid £4 for his labours. It’s over 53ft/16m tall and originally polychromed. [1126×1690]
