Gladiators in movies: “I must kill my opponent to survive another day.”
Gladiators in reality: “Death match? They don’t do that outside of special occasions. Costs too much to get replacements. Heck, they wouldn’t even let me kill the lion I faced last week because it was expensive to train.”

Gladiators IRL: is a slave, and even once he’s free he most likely has no real skills beyond performing in the arena. It’s the only life he knows. He is institutionalized
