Photo #1 is at Waterloo Station, London in August 1936 as Owens starts the trip back home. He's so dapper! Love the look.
Photos 2 and 3 are with his wife, Minnie Ruth, on the Queen Mary boat, arriving in NYC.
Photo 4 is him smiling at his admirers on the boat and at the port upon arrival.
Jesse Owens was treated shamefully by FDR and by Jim Crow America, imo, but that's a story for another day.
In these photos, he's celebrating and justifiably happy, having obliterated the Nazi claim to supremacy going into the 1936 games. 4 gold medals, breaking world records, and all under insane, worldwide political and social pressure. What a legend.

The early days of black American athletes showing they are some of the best in the world.
That first pic has the feeling of “get me the FUCK outta this country”
According to Owens himself FDR managed to treat him worse than literally Hitler. Now obviously the Nazis were just pullijg a charade but it’s still a sad comparison to lose.
