Actually 1492, apart from the obvious, is when we finally got the moors kicked out.

Finally got our sh*t together, although we’d lose it again in a few centuries

    2. Sadly the absolute chad Las Casa passed a bill to stop violent colonization but it got denied by the beta cuck king

I would argue Mehmed was worse than Columbus, both as a historical figure and as a person, but you are right, it’s wild that Colombus is still celebrated for his crimes.

    4. This whole shitting on Columbus based on my English speaking sources and stuff is getting tiring

    5. The Ottomans were way worse than the Spanish though, it’s only that they didn’t have an armada of diseases on their side. Also without the Ottomans, there wouldn’t have been an age of discovery in the first place, “no Columbus”.

Also Columbus was just a successful explorer, who was ill all the time. Is there any evidence of him being a genocider or a slaver?

Should Columbus get blame for spreading smallpox to the Americas? Or does that just fall on all the governments of that era since someone was going to eventually make it across the Atlantic

    7. Congratulations, you just discovered that everyone has their own bias based on their culture, history and national identity. Who would have thought that, right?

    8. tbf when mehmet ii finally arrived in constantinople there wasn’t much left that the fourth crusade didn’t already steal or melt

I’m not Turkish. Not even related at all with Turkey or anything else, but the Ottomans were cool af, and the conquest of Constantinople, both the legendary death of the Last Roman Emperor, and the Conquest by Mehmed II, is one of the coolest events in history.

Is like it’s from a fantasy book or something.

    10. The weak crumble, are slaughtered and are erased from history while the strong, for good or for ill, survive. The strong are respected, and alliances are made with the strong, and in the end peace is made with the strong.

    11. Jokes on you, I stopped caring about European history the moment American history started getting properly documented.
