Note that the spike in the 1970s may be an anomaly, but other that this anomaly you will notice a general slow upward trend in how quickly storms are intensifying.

      I would be very skeptical of this trend. The ability to measure intensity is much better now. Doppler radar wasn’t common until the 1990s and I’m not even sure how they have any data from the 1800s with no radar or planes to measure it. This trend could well be false and simply due to increasing ability to detect the highest winds.
