I think at some point we all have to come to grips with the fact that america is not better than this. It maybe used to be better, but not for a very long time now. America has a real problem of violent, delusional fanatics who are putting people’s lives in danger (and worse). And they are being manipulated so thoroughly for political gain.
Allowing our predecessors to break the educational system was a big mistake, and we now have to deal with the inevitable consequences that have spiraled out of control.

We AREN’T better than this… we ARE this. I mean We in a collective sense. Trump in any other Era would’ve been laughed at and collectively shunned for the things he does and says. Today, he is not only not shunned, but absolutely loved like a demigod for doing those things. That’s a reflection on US, not him. We allow it to happen. We vote him in. We cow-tow to his antics. The “line in the sand” is constantly moved every single day.
As long as close to 50% of the people in this country like what he says and represents, we will be in this mess. I just don’t see it changing soon unfortunately. Truly scared for the future of my kids.

I have a friend who regularly deploys with FEMA, is currently in Florida. It’s not some weird conspiracy theory government organization. They are one of the few government programs with their actual hands directly helping those in need and not just funding or subsidizing.
