Why would one think black men are exclusively democratic is the other question.

Can we stop giving this energy? We know for a fact that Obama was not speaking for the majority of black men, but we also know damn well that there are a few “black folks” who aren’t democrats/or aren’t supporting Harris cause she is a woman and because of what they perceived she did while in her previous office. Can we spend more energy making sure everyone is registered and educated on the issues so that they *can* vote? Instead of whatever op was hoping would happen with this post? This shit has been run into the ground

Exactly this. I was discussing this with a white female friend yesterday and she tried to defend black men being used as the scapegoat. If anything, white women, and a lot of Hispanic voters (mainly Cubans) in places like Florida are the ones that need to be educated.

Cmon now, we all know some misogynistic black men who don’t seem particularly enthused about voting for a woman. No they aren’t the majority, just like Uncle Ruckus isn’t a majority, but don’t act like they ain’t out there, talking shit in barber shops, trying to influence the majority with their petty women’s grievances.
I don’t like the way Obama did it, but I have two male siblings, one is not going to vote, and the other is not happy to vote for her, so I understand where he’s coming from.

Do we think Obama gave that speech randomly? Like, it wasn’t based on some pretty firm polling information. Let me ask another way, have you known President Obama to go out on a limb like that since he left the presidency?
After the election, when the question is answered, are we going to see the apology tweets from all these accounts?
AdPutrid7706 on
There was a narrative in the 2016 election about how black men somehow came up short for democrats, because a relatively small percentage didn’t vote for Clinton. I found that to be disappointing, and there does seem to be an almost like, pre-loading of excuses in case Harris loses, one of which is that black men came up short voting wise. I’m not sure what other demographic is held to such high voter turnout percentage expectations.
Zbrchk on
Not again y’all. Obama spoke to black men because he had a chance of reaching those who are still undecided. That’s it and that’s all. No one is bashing black men as a whole. I have seen more energy online for this than I have for speaking out against all the misogyny directed at Harris from all sides, including within the black community.

I mean, from this side of the fence I’d guess that Black men are being “scapegoated” because they’re seen as being persuadable.
Easier to try and persuade Black men to set aside misogyny (assuming that’s an issue for a moment) than to try and persuade *white* men to set aside that same misogyny *and* also racism *and* privilege. Which is what it really boils down to, and not just with Black voters. See it to with a lot of the young LGBTQ set that avoid “supporting” Harris due to Gaza. Whole lot of people acting like they enjoy a level of privilege that they *don’t.*
But that’s a choice everyone gets to make for themselves.
Also I’d agree that when a group’s support for Trump is below the Crazification Factor, yelling at that group to “do better” is…probably not going to be productive.

Yes I understand there are many factors this , but if you treat this as the important duty it is, you will take steps.
You know which groups ( anecdotally and online) I see pitch the “ voting does nothing, don’t waste your time” propaganda ?
I felt that was the underlying message.

I don’t know why ppl assume Obama is talking to people who voted for Democrats/support Kamala. He’s clearly talking to those who don’t vote, support Trump, or down talk Kamala.
It’s more prevalent than you think. In my group chat there are at least two who definitely aren’t voting for Kamala. And their reasons are the bullshit you see online. Obama isn’t just making shit up to talk. Hit dogs holler.

This is because black male support for democrat nominees has been trending downward since Obama’s 2nd term. Yes majority of black men vote democrat but the percentage has been decreasing over the past 12 years. Not sure if the “move” to Republican Party is even a move or if it’s trump specific. But that is what the numbers show in general elections at least.

Agreed, messaging has always been divisive in nature towards black men, which some of these men deserve but it’s not enough black men who behave like that to address all black men. The same with most social issues attached to black men… most incarcerated/ and wrongfully convicted, great example of how society portrays us but the energy to make true justice doesn’t apply
