Pretty much resigned myself to the likelihood that we’re going to have to fight it out with these kooks at some point. Even if Harris wins resoundingly and trump sues, there is a high likelihood that SCOTUS would overturn the election; then it’s game on.

I’m a Canadian, but here’s my opinion from the outside looking in.
This is the result of generations of being taught about American exceptionalism. Schools, and society have taught for years that the American way is best, the country is the best, the people are the best. Other countries would just be better if they followed the American way.
This has caused many Americans to be completely unable to see anything negative about the actions of themselves or their country. “If America is the best, then what we are doing can’t be bad”. Trickles down all the way to individual responsibility- if someone hasn’t tried for their entire lives to be successful, or to better themselves, then when all they can get is an entry level job, whose fault is it? Can’t be theirs – they are an American after all. Must be the immigrants! (Who probably have a higher work ethic 🙄).
The support for Trump is the culmination of this. He’s just like them – or so they think. He “knows” it’s the fault of immigrants and liberals and trans people that they can’t have a decent job. Couldn’t possibly be the erosion of wages and the middle class led by the elite. Why can’t it be they? Because the free market is the American way and the American way can’t possibly be bad.
I don’t know what the answer is, but I think it will take a generation. It needs to start with young people being humble about themselves and their country. Then maybe the necessary change can happen to rebuild the middle class – but the Trump’s, Musk’s, Bezos’s, etc won’t let that happen easily
