Did you ever hear the tragedy of not having any money? It’s not a story the US military would know about.

You know what we SHOULD do? Build an entirely worthless brand new battleship that’ll go out of commission in 5 years* because if you didn’t see the writing on the wall about CVs being both the present and future of naval warfare, you’re a certified moron!

As a naval history enjoyer they should have really kept either Warspite, KGV or Rodney around due to their immense contributions to their country during war time.

Saving Warspite was a dream. The beating she took left her barely functional as a monitor. The cost it would take to restore her, if it were even possible, was more than the British Empire could offer.
HMS Warspite did her duty, from Jutland to Normandy. Perhaps we could have built something around Prussia Cove. Probably cheaper than the scrapping would be. But old warriors like Warspite and Enterprise earned their rest. May history never forget the Grande Olde Lady

Man, the US couldn’t get enough support to save fucking Enterprise. The most important ship in the Pacific. At least we saved some Iowas

The simple truth is that museum ships are insanely expensive to maintain, and few people are willing to stump up that much cash.
On the plus side however, we still have [HMS Warrior](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warrior_(1860))
