Last night it said that it will rain VERY little from 0800-0900 this morning.
This morning, at 0600, it said that there would be no rain at all!
I started biking at 0830, hoping to reach class around 0855.
A third of the way, it started to drizzle. Soon, it started raining pretty heavily. I was SOAKED by the time I arrived at my class.
Now, does this mean weather is a finicky bitch and we can only do our best to make educated predictions about it?

People like this are never happy. The storm cut its wind speed by a third before it hit which is great. People literally prayed it would dissipate like that and it wasn’t at all guaranteed it would. Now that it did people are upset it wasn’t so bad? You wanted your house destroyed? I don’t get it.

Every one of those updates comes from hurricane hunters flying into the storm and measuring the relative wind speed and pressure.
The reason it fluctuated so much was because it went through several eye wall replacement cycles (where an outer band strengthens and becomes the new eye wall) each cycle is going to decrease its intensity for a time and then it’ll go back up once the cycle is complete and the hurricane is more organized.
The Gulf is windy! Shocking, I know, but that wind interacts poorly with hurricanes and can weaken them significantly in a process known as wind shear.
Milton was predicted to get sheared down to a cat 3 before making landfall and guess what? Milton was a cat 3 when it made landfall in Siesta Key, FL around 8:30pm last night.
Milton also merged with a front that was already over florida so it became almost like a Nor Easter in nature once it was over Florida.
The interesting thing about this hurricane was that all the rain got pushed north of the eye so if you were south of the eye (like me, over in Southeast Florida), you mostly just got the wind and barely any rain at all. (We got less than an inch of rain)
