This is what a 15 foot hurricane storm surge looks like. It’s terrifying.

    1. r/praisethecameraman must have been hanging on for dear life. While filming with a steady hand!

    2. living on the west cost of florida, knowing this happens every year is insane. Praying for them right now.

    3. Anchor deep but build high. Let the swamp take over and live higher. Just a balancing act.

    4. I’ve never experienced a hurricane before, but seeing so many rich people not wanting to evacuate their homes during this shit is insane to me.

Is there something I’m missing? Maybe it’s not that bad if your house is made of concrete?

there was a comment years ago where someone’s parent’s insurance claim for flood damage was denied because the policy didn’t cover damage from “wind driven water”

    6. America, the richest country in the world (their words), has this happen every year yet never any flood defences and constantly just rebuild the same wooden shacks year after year that get destroyed.

Try learning some flood defences from the Dutch.

    7. I know this is horrifying and devastating for those involved, but I’m impressed that those 3 small trees in the foreground are stronger than a house.

Crazy! Not overly religious but praying for those people, hope most got out or at least inland

    9. 15 foot is an average. Some points will get higher, some points lower. When they say get out, it’s because you’ll drown when it’s 20 feet for a while, and your house was at 16 feet.
