I went to Croatia and did a Tito Tour. Pretty fascinating. The tour guide was amazing, she came out and the first thing she said was “Whether you think Tito was a brutal dictator and butcher of the people or a savior who presented a softer alternative to Soviet Communism….you are right.”

Bulgaria wanted to join the USSR in the late 1940s, under the leadership of Georgi Dimitrov. Dimitrov, a strong ally of Stalin, proposed integrating Bulgaria as a Soviet Republic, especially around 1946-1947. However, Stalin rejected the idea, preferring to keep Bulgaria as an independent socialist state within the Eastern Bloc rather than absorb it into the Soviet Union directly.
Meanwhile, Yugoslavia’s leader, Tito, tried to unite Bulgaria into a Balkan Federation before the Tito-Stalin split in 1948. After the split, Bulgaria sided with the USSR, and Tito was left desperate to bring Bulgaria closer to Yugoslavia, which never happened.

A Yugoslavia with Bulgaria and Albania in it would be too OP.

You’re silly to assume Bulgaria had a say in these negotiations.
