Can’t be bothered to find the article, but the reason it was so late was because it was stuck behind a drawer at the post office. They found it (much) later and, to the woman’s surprise, managed to return it to her (which is weird because she moved twice).
She got a job inside the same domain anyway, at a different employer, and was happy to have the letter back

To those asking if she got the job, no. The letter she is holding is her application, which never reached the the employer. It was lost behind a drawer. She just got her application back.

Just out of curiosity, I would go to the interview and see what they have to say.
How were they able to reach her?
