Been in Florida most of my life & if they’re closed, it’s serious. But didn’t know it was a thing.

When Waffle House opens back up, means you should stay home 2 more hours to be safe. They are the first thing that opens, always.

I remember learning about this. As a Brit, this shit is so comical to me, but it sounds so damn relatable lmao

for anyone unaware, waffle house is a breakfast style restaurant thats open 24/7. Its known for staying open even if there are tornadoes nearby.

so its a bit of a joke, but its also serious.

      Waffle house never closes down.

So if someone tells you *waffle house* shut down, then you better pack your things and gtfo

as a sidenote there have apparently been some waffle house workers who push back against this kinda stuff, because well. theyre the ones being forced to work during awful weather, for kinda awful wages, and they have to put up with a LOT of abuse from customers

its not like waffle house is particularly well equipped to deal with hurricanes, the big bosses are just stubborn as hell about closing apparently. on one hand yeah its good to have SOME food options following disasters, but they dont really seem to give a shit about the workers.

    5. Let’s observe a minute of silence for Cracked.com who taught me this little tidbit years ago, when it was still a funny website.

    6. It’s a real thing and used for not only hurricanes but other storms too. Waffle house as a brand always wants to be open if one’s closed that means shits wrecked and bad. During Ike in Houston when I saw the Waffle House near me reopen after a couple of weeks I knew we weren’t far off from getting power back in our neighborhood. I remember after the Joplin tornado they used the index then too. But as someone mentioned it really sucks for the employees.

TIL The Florida news tracks the Waffle House Index of hurricanes.

This is the most Florida thing ever!

Has anyone been briefed by Piggly Wiggly?

Love the quote from Craig Fugate as well as the secondary level of restaurant operations on the second image.

Thought you may be one of Whicks subscribers on YouTube. × Fact × Wafflehouse never closes, so when you see this place closed like mentioned you know things are going to get bad, no pun intended. I myself have lived in Florida over 23 years & grew up playing there chasing swells, springbreaks, & parties growing up b4 moving down their.
I have friends & family their & I hope the storm brings out the locals to help one another, one thing Florida is usually good about. 🙏 for All!
