It’s been a bumpy ride, but I would say Britain and France’s relationship ended up in a pretty good spot, all things considered.

      Historical:

“I never thought I would die fighting side by side with an elf”

“How about side by side with a friend?”

      “Oui, I can do that”

    2. Are we SpongeBob or Patrick ? I’m confused now. And I would assume we would be Squidward tbh…

    3. While it’s fun to joke about their changed relationship, it’s also important to remember that they were remarkably similar in the 1900’s. They were both powerful global empires that feared a rising Germany. Their friendship was based primarily on maintaining the profitable status quo, which called for a peaceful Europe. They had quite a lot in common and after rather peacefully carving up most of Africa together, the two had very little reason to fight. There was also the fears of the rising United States overthrowing the status quo (the US had basically killed off the dying carcass of the Spanish Empire at the start of the century), as well as the Soviet Union, not just because of communism, but also because it essentially destroyed the Russian ally that had been once integral to overrunning Germany.

However, neither empire would truly survive the war, as the colonialism scheme, at least in the form it took then, was no longer sustainable or profitable. World War II was a truly pyrrhic victory for the dying empires, just as much of the 20th century was for other European Empires.

    4. Homie out here fighting WW2 with a Berthier. Respect to the WW1 surplus doing work. Especially my Estonian P14s (I have no bias and do not own multiple P14s and P17s).

Got to admit it fucks me off when people from other countries take the piss out of France.

it would be a shame if the majority of all those Frenchmen who came to Britain during operation dynamo were to just go home on civvie ships once France surrendered. not like the free french were a surprisingly small force that is overly talked about because the french dont want to admit to some uncomfortable truths regarding their nation during the 30s and 40s
