Elon is offering a “free 30 days of internet” promotion via Starlink.
The problem is, you have to pay $400 for the dish and equipment. AND it will not arrive nearly in time to be useful for disaster assistance. AND I’m pretty sure that free 30 days is a standard promotion that is being offered to pretty much everyone anyway.
So what is really happening here is Elon is taking advantage of a natural disaster to try to sell Starlink services, and is not actually doing anything charitable at all, while pretending he is.
Aka, Elon is definitely a dipshit, and you don’t even have to make up lies for that to still be true.

He also charges starlink users in ukraine dramatically more than US users. He gives them “priority” service for $600/mo instead of regular service at $120/mo. The satellites are there anyways, and when they are so low they aren’t in competition with other nations they are just serving ukraine, so having high priority along with everyone else is exactly the same as having low priority along with everyone else.
