I despise Trump as much as anyone who cares about the future of this country should but even if he wasn’t hit by a bullet the attempt still happened and no matter what I think of him that’s still a serious incident.
I can’t stress enough how little I care abut his health or safety but if someone managed to assassinate him it would have been a huge disaster. Trump supporters are angry enough as it is, they don’t need an excuse to lash out

At most he was grazed by the bullet. Most likely scenario is that it just whizzed past his ear and he reacted to the pressure and sound. The bleeding was most likely not caused by direct bullet impact (it healed incredibly fast for a 80yr old so it couldn’t have been severe)
None of it really matters though. He was shot at and was not seriously injured. How “close” he was to death is largely moot. He was very lucky.
Security failed horribly and needs/needed to be addressed.
