This is such an excellent and succinct way to show the problems with MAGA’s narrative on Ukraine. What I always bring up on this point is the idea that the aid we give is mostly or all just straight cash is false. What we’re giving Ukraine for the most part is military equipment (especially older equipment from the 80s and 90s that we’ve not used and were probably never going to use). Plus, to replace this older equipment US arms manufacturers are now investing a lot more in industry in the US. While we are giving some money to them, we’re not giving Ukraine endless amounts of money with no strings attached (which is the framing MAGA uses). Plus, MAGA leaders, when it comes to actually voting for policies or legislation that helps working class Americans never actually support anything that would benefit them. They don’t articulate what they would actually do with funds allocated for Ukraine instead. I’m sympathetic to the basic argument of “Let’s focus on helping Americans here instead of Ukraine.”. I understand that basic impulse but the anti-Ukraine aid leaders in MAGA have zero-intention of actually doing anything for Americans once the aid is cut off. The fact that they don’t ever want to consider cutting off Israel for example, when they’re very clearly fighting a conflict which is way, way more problematic compared to what Ukraine is doing, shows they aren’t anti-war they’re just anti-the war in Ukraine because Trump likes Putin.

However, the meme proves the point. This was something MLK said. We’re spending money on weapons and so little on helping people. Yes we have so much capacity to make weapons and so much weapons stockpiles, because of decades of this. It shouldn’t be this way.Â
