A grave in Yakutia, Siberia, containing five members of the same family: the mother, in red, her children in yellow (her son, head to tail and her daughter, face to face) and her grandchildren in blue, the children of her daughter. They all died of smallpox. 17th-18th century CE [1181×1575]

    2. So poignant. Family member added after family member. So many dead in one fell swoop, I can imagine how many others were affected by smallpox. We forget it easly
