I was in high school for Carter vs. Reagan. Lots of, “He’s not the smartest, but he’s a good guy.” They said the same thing about W. Adding in Trump, that’s three out of the last four Rep. Presidents that haven’t been known for their intelligence.
Lots of questions about Clinton’s poor judgement, but no one said he wasn’t smart. Obama was also considered very smart.
It’s an odd contrast.
