    1. In the old days of Commodore Amiga, due to the small storage space on floppy disks the code was often compressed (“crunched”). During the loading-to-memory phase, the computer would the “decrunch” this code, and feedback for this operation would be sent to screen as a [sequence of rapidly flickering horizontal lines](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amiga_decrunching.png).

      This abomination of a flag reminds me of that process.
