Here’s the problem… our immigration policies, unless you have a family member or job pulling you in, you have to have money, an “extraordinary talent” or be a “special” immigrant. We don’t make provisions for ordinary folks that don’t have a connection already to the US to be eligible. Gone are the days of us welcoming everyone to the land of opportunity, even though it benefits this country greatly to do so. We need to fix immigration to open it back up, and increase the quotas.

His formerly carefully crafted public image also painted him as this science genius but that also was part of the aforementioned hype manning. It’s why he could get a bunch of actually smart people to build his shit back in the day.

Over the years I’ve had lots of discussions with people I know well about their “fears” of immigrants and one of the more insulting things I hear when I remind them that I too am an immigrant is when they backpedal with “well you’re one the good ones.” But in more recent years instead of trying to explain things to them I’ve just started to push on with “tell me, what makes me a ‘good one’?” And then listen to them try to explain things without making themselves sound overly racist. It usually doesn’t go well, but now and then I’ll get someone who acknowledges they’re wrong or makes some other redeeming statement.
