In the rest of Europe, most usually relied on defeating their enemies in strategic battles and quickly rushing to the capital, but you just can’t do that with Russia. It is a vast, muddy land that is hard to traverse and gets worse on winter, and without care, the invader’s logistics can quickly break down and collapse.

Basically, they played chess on Europe, but Russia forced them to play checkers.

Oh that’s bullshit and you know it.

If the 1941 – 42 winter was the warmest it would never have solved Germany’s tactical and strategic drawbacks, their logistical flaws, their equipment, oil and manpower deficits and the impending entry of the world’s leading industrial power in the war which bankrolled a solid chunk of the Red Army.

AND Napoleon didn’t lose because of the weather. The Russians simply had better strategic and tactical lay of the land, especially the Cossacks.

The Red Army won the war, not General Winter, that’s Nazi revisionist propaganda

    4. The poor infrastructure of Russia Ukraine and Belarus, along with the rasputitsa, had more impact than the cold winters ever did.

    5. That might work in a defensive war. In an offensive war like right now with Ukraine, it’s not going to help

    6. Just don’t ask them about the mongols and winter. Frozen rivers = horse super highways.

The winter is given massively higher importance compared to what actually did.

In the Napoleonic Wars, more people died during the summer. It was a supply line issue that caused the failure.

In WW2 same thing. German supply lines were terrible, their enemy had a much bigger army and industrial output, and they were challenging the biggest colonial empire and the biggest economic superpower off all time at the same time.

The Germans aren’t winning even if it’s spring the whole damn year
