Can I ask which country you’re in, OP? I’ve never seen this in Britain or in southern Europe where I am now. It looks to me like these have been kept in extended storage and then once sent out for sale they’ve been allowed to warm up and here we are! :O

That’s usually because of heavy use of fertilizers and/or being picked way too early

So the seeds are sprouting inside itself… ew… it’s like a vegetable version of Aliens with the alien “baby” being a tomato exploding out of a tomato 🤮😂

I saw a tv show where a man had a pea sprouting in his lungs. Maybe leaders should leave nature alone. It’s not working

    5. Rotting, spoiling, molding, going stale, sprouting all depends on surrounding conditions.

      Heat, air, moisture, Lil critters.

    6. These must have been preserved for a very long time and the seeds eventually ran out of the hormone that keeps them dormant. This is called vivipary.

This happens when you keep them a very long time in a fridge vegetable drawer, source: myself.

Happens to us with both garden and store tomatoes when our house is really warm in the summer/fall.

This just happened to me yesterday. I tossed them, but it was really bizarre looking.

Those tomatoes are always picked green. They sit in a warehouse until shipped to the store. They gas them to turn red right before shipment. They were probably sitting too long before shipped.

OP, don’t you want to see those tomatoes in cross sectional views? I would..

If it’s not any trouble could you post the cross section pics if you do so!?

    12. It’s called Vivipary! Learned about it this past year when a tomato I grew was sprouting just like this. Crazy to see it from a store bought tomato.

i love when seeds sprout so i find this extremely morbidly cool to look at 👀 were they sitting in direct light?
