For those that don’t know, Republicans voted against disaster relief funding days before Hurricane Helene hit. After Hurricane Matthew in 2017, Trump only provided 1% of the requested funds needed to rebuild in North Carolina because he didn’t like the Democratic governor. He tried doing the same thing during the California wildfires too.
As for Ukraine, a majority of the relief sent to Ukraine is actually decommissioned military equipment that was assigned a monetary value. We’re not just sending Ukraine hundreds of billions of dollars, we’re sending them humanitarian aid and old equipment that we no longer use. Republican politicians know this but need a reason to complain.

I think we’re going to learn what exactly 1/6 did. 9 years ago we would have issued a few trillion dollars in bonds, sold them all within 72 hours, generated the money and then Congress would vote to allocate that money to recovery. But that’s not going to happen now. No one wants to touch the debt of the country that almost sent all of its treasury bonds to zero.
