Another day, another episode of “real Americans” questioning other people’s realness.
Is this your real hair?! (And are you sure you *don’t* like eating cats and dogs?)

Unless you’re using sign language, don’t ask with your hands. Or just don’t touch strangers without consent.

Racism and colonialism aside, does anybody else just get grossed out at the thought of touching a stranger’s hair?

If I’ve learned anything from watching white women getting their hair done on social media, it’s that their hair is purchased too.

As a white dude, I have *never in my life* wanted to touch another person’s hair. It’s so rude and, I’m probably wrong, just nasty.

see, that’s why I’m not that mad at it. They don’t do it out of hate. they do it out of a place of cringe and you can’t just fix that except for through PSAs.
When I was in university I was a department assistant and lady just walked up to me to touch my hair after staring at my head for a few seconds. I’m black but my hair is a bit straight

They really do! I’m Indian and one time when I had long hair my SIL’s white grandmother just grabbed a strand of my hair and started rubbing it between her index finger and thumb. This was years ago and my blood pressure spikes every time I think about it.

I grew up in Sweden and puberty decided my hair should dtop being straight blonde and instead become light brown/dark blonde corcscrews. As it grew it turned into a certified whitefro. Because I was a freak of nature I became accustomed to old lades petting my hair and commenting “it’s like lamb’s wool”.
It’s a global phenomenon.

Sometimes they ask while they’re reaching to touch your hair or while already touching it…bothered me to no end in middle school in the early 2000’s

Low-awareness folks of all types do this shit. I’m a dude fortunate enough to have Troy Polamalu style long hair & I get accosted by drunk folk of all backgrounds whenever I hit the bar scene.
